If you are currently feeling stagnant in your life, but are unsure how exactly to level up your life, then this visualization may be just the thing you need right now.

We all have a dream of what we’d like our next level of life to be. For some, that may be a promotion at work; others may dream of working for themselves. Regardless of what you dream of, it may feel like an overwhelming or impossible task to get to – especially if this next level looks a whole lot different than your current daily life. This is where visualization comes into play.

Visualization, when done correctly, utilizes your emotions and imagination to put yourself in a situation. A lot of people use this as a method to visualize what they want to see happen. For example, if you know you have a big presentation coming up at work, a visualization method could involve envisioning yourself absolutely crushing it in the presentation. You’d picture the room, what you’re wearing, the audience – everything down to the little details. This is what we’re going to do today, but with this next level of life. However, in order to do it successfully, we first need to make sure our mindset is in the right place.

Think of your mindset as the lens you view the world through. To give an extremely basic overview of the whole thing, picture a negative mindset as glasses that highlight all of the wrongdoings in the world, and a positive or growth mindset as glasses that highlight all of the opportunities and love in the world. Of course, it needs to be said that negative emotions and feelings are very real and valid and that it would be totally unrealistic to expect yourself to be positive or happy 100% of the time. However, while doing this visualization, you must be looking at it through a positive or growth mindset.

This visualization isn’t the time to think about the logistics of how it would happen or the practicality of if it could happen. Make sure you’re in a headspace where you believe that you are worth this next level of life, believe you are deserving of it, and believe it is already yours.

The visualization that will help you take your life to the next level 

The visualization is pretty simple: you are to clearly visualize yourself living your next level of life. The mechanics of how to do this will depend on your own preferences. You may choose to journal about it, meditate on it, or talk about it. However you choose, you need to make sure you’re doing this with as much clarity and detail as possible.

The best way to do this is to go through a day in your life at this next level, but done in the present tense, while focusing on every single detail. Put as much emotion as you can into this exercise to really feel as though you are living this next level of success. The more real it feels to you, the better.

If you’re not sure where to begin, here are some points to focus on. Instead of treating it like a list to fill out, focus on the day in your life while including these points. For example, this could look something like “I’m so grateful for the life I am living. Today I woke up at 5 am. I opened my eyes and saw my husband lying beside me on my right on our cloud-like king-size mattress…” It is so simple, yet so effective.


What time do you wake up?

Are you at home, or somewhere else?

Are you alone when you wake up or is your partner beside you?

Do you get out of bed right away?

What does the space look like?

What does the space smell like?

Did you leave it clean the night before, or do you need to tidy up something?

What do you do as soon as you get up? Do you make breakfast? Do you workout? Do you meditate?

What do you do to get ready for the day? What products do you use?

How long does it take you?

What brands are in your closet?

What do you wear?

Do you put on perfume?

What do you do for work? Are you a student? Do you work at home or in an office?

Who do you work for? Do you work with someone or yourself? 

How is your commute?

What type of car do you drive?

Do you stop for coffee?

Where do you park?

What does your workplace look like?

Do you have your own office? If so, what does it look like?

What sort of projects do you work on?

Do you have meetings during your day? If so, who are they with?

Who is your direct contact?

Do you need to go to someone for authorization?

Do you work with executives?

Who do you network with?

How do you network?

What’s your lunch like?

Do you eat alone or with other people?

Do you go out to eat or eat at work?


What do you do after work?

Do you change when you get home?

What do you eat for dinner?

What do you do in the evenings?

Do you tidy your home and do the dishes?

What is your bedtime routine like?

What time do you go to bed?

Take an audit of your own life

After you’ve finished your visualization, it’s important to take an audit of your own life. This is not a time to bash where you are now or criticize yourself for not being where you want to be. It’s just a temperature check for where you are versus where you want to be. Some areas you want to look at may include:

What is your sleep schedule is like?

Where do you spend your free time?

What do you do for fun?

What is your job?

What is your income level?

What are your behaviours and mannerisms like?

How do you dress?

What do you fuel your body with?

How do you feel?

Make adjustments in your life that align with your next level

Now, it wouldn’t exactly be practical or realistic to assume that you can suddenly change up your entire life to start living your next level now. But, what if there were areas in your life that you could start showing up as your next-level self? In other words, can you start living the part, or acting like you’re living your dream life now?

This will take some creativity. If you are currently working a 9-5, but dream of working for yourself, of course, you won’t be able to change up your entire schedule. However, are you able to start dressing the way you want to dress? Can you adjust your sleep schedule to wake up earlier so you can start the morning routine your next level would be following? 

If you are wanting to go to a yoga class every morning but aren’t able to now, can you start practicing yoga at home at the exact time you’d like to be in a class? If you envision waking up to a clean home, are you able to tidy up before bed? Are you able to start making connections with the people you dream of working with or for one day? Are you able to be kinder and more patient with yourself and others?

I want to make something clear: this is not something worth going into debt over. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t get creative and use what you have available to you. If your next-level self is wearing an expensive perfume, are you able to find a sample or ask for it as a gift? If your clothing doesn’t align with what you want to wear, are you able to repurpose or sell some of the items in your wardrobe, thrift key staples, or shop good sales?

It’s important to remember that most overnight successes took years to build, so give yourself grace as you embark on levelling up your life. Go slow, do what you can when you can, but keep your eye on the prize. The more you can focus on what you want and stay dedicated, the more you will attract it into your life.
